Wednesday & Friday's Markets
Heirloom Farm is located just west of Gettysburg. I have been gardening for years and do the gardening myself, except for when my 3 yr old granddaughter is visiting and helps “Pop-Pop” in the gardens; although her self appointed job is mostly picking and sampling the various vegetables, particularly the heirloom tomatoes and string beans.
Over time I gravitated towards growing only heirloom vegetables due to there fresh rich flavor, refined textures and often higher nutritional values. You may be asking yourself, what’s an “Heirloom” vegetable? There are a few different definitions in the world of vegetables, but the one I utilize is, a variety of vegetable that originated prior to 1950 and is open pollinated. I grow no vegetable that has been genetically altered or that is a hybrid. I also grow all naturally, using only pest controls and fertilizers that are approved for organic gardening.
I select my vegetable varieties through noted flavor and interesting histories, so stop by the Wednesday afternoon market at Gettysburg Rec. Park or Friday morning market at the Gettysburg Outlets to discuss them and try some selected samples. We look forward to serving your market shopping needs this season.
